Rebecca on Rebecca -

If a miserable childhood were a prerequisite to becoming a writer, I would have no hope. It’s not that my childhood was uniformly easy and pain-free, but I was born lucky, or as is said in Castellano “afortunada”. I was born to inquisitive, intelligent parents, who exposed me to languages, literature, classical music, travel and good education.

Our home was full of books and reading. Some of my earliest and enduring, endearing memories are of my parents reading to my siblings and me at bedtime. We would go for weeks reading an adventure novel or an historical tale. Some of the characters were as real to me as my schoolmates and friends—I looked forward to spending time with them every night.

I am a graduate of the Creative Writing program at the University of Arizona, with an emphasis on poetry and non-fiction writing. Currently, I participate in Clive Matson’s fiction workshop and frequent the writer’s website, Backspace. Professionally, I am an investigator for the Superior Court in the county where I live—investigating cases of child abuse, sexual abuse, severe child neglect and domestic violence.

My life is peopled with rich characters: my eccentric, inspired husband, my creative (and procreative) daughters, three exceptional grandchildren, interesting family members and far-flung friends who span three continents. I am indeed an “afortunada.”

Rebecca’s poetry has appeared in The Crazy Child Scribbler, The Loop, Poetsagainstthewar.org and Voicesinwartime.org.
